Rahu and Ketu are the two lunar nodes, often called shadow planets because they have no physical body yet cast a strong karmic influence. Rahu is associated with worldly desire, ambition, illusion and sudden events, while Ketu is associated with detachment, confusion, spiritual pull and abrupt endings. When either sits unfavourably in a birth chart or runs an adverse Dasha, life can feel unpredictable, with unexpected obstacles, foggy thinking, addictions, health puzzles and instability in work or relationships. As a broader measure, a Navagraha Japa balances all nine planets around the two nodes.
This puja is more targeted than a general Navagraha worship. It concentrates specifically on Rahu and Ketu, appeasing each with its own mantra Japa in the traditional counts, followed by a Havan that offers the appropriate herbs into the fire. The result sought is a calmer, clearer mind and the removal of the sudden, seemingly causeless troubles that these planets are known for. Where Saturn is also troubling the chart, the Shani Dosh Nivaran Puja works well alongside this Jaap.

Step 1: Chart Analysis and Muhurat. The placement and Dasha of Rahu and Ketu are studied and an appropriate day is selected.
Step 2: Sankalp. The ritual opens with your name, gotra and intention.
Step 3: Ganesh and Kalash Puja. Obstacles are cleared and divine presence is anchored.
Step 4: Navagraha Puja. The nine planets are honoured to create a balanced field before focusing on the nodes.
Step 5: Rahu Shanti Japa. The Rahu mantra is chanted in its traditional count.
Step 6: Ketu Shanti Japa. The Ketu mantra is chanted in its traditional count.
Step 7: Havan. Herbs and offerings dedicated to Rahu and Ketu are given into the sacred fire.
Step 8: Aarti and Blessings. The ritual concludes with Purnahuti, aarti and blessings dedicated to you.
